Digitising contractual dealings: DR-WALTER automates processes with sign.online
22.01.2026
The digital signature platform sign.online supports DR-WALTER in the efficient automisation of business processes. A specially developed comprehensive solution makes it possible to conveniently sign extensive series of contract addenda in a legally compliant manner with just a single digital signature.
Time-consuming contract signings are a thing of the past
As an insurance broker specializing in travel insurance, DR-WALTER works with numerous organizations around the world and maintains corresponding contractual partnerships. If existing contracts had to be amended—for example, due to premium changes—the previous analog signing process involved considerable effort. Numerous steps were required for each individual contract amendment:
• Drafting and reviewing agreement terms
• Printing the final version, including adding the counterparty’s logo
• Handwriting the signature
• Scanning the documents
• Posting or emailing the agreement
• Actively tracking the signed documents to ensure they are returned
• Filing and archiving in offline systems
This process was not only time-consuming, but also incurred considerable costs for paper, printing materials, postage, archiving space, and labor.
Digital contract addenda for universities – efficient and GDPR-compliant
Last fall, Nancy Kannenberg, head of the Business Relations team at DR-WALTER, faced the challenge of completing several hundred contract addenda for universities within a short period of time. She received support from Martin Nørgaard Gregersen, software architect and co-founder of sign.online. The Estonian platform offers companies, organizations, and public institutions an intuitive way to sign contracts digitally and complete transactions quickly and cost-effectively. For DR-WALTER, it was particularly important that all regulatory requirements of the insurance industry were met—especially when handling sensitive personal data and health information. Together with DR-WALTER's compliance officer, detailed documentation was therefore developed showing how sign.online works with a total of 90 GDPR-compliant data protection measures.
Customized dashboard, multilingualism, and flexible design
In addition to the digital signature, Martin Nørgaard Gregersen developed a customized analysis dashboard that gives DR-WALTER a complete overview of all workflows. Statistics can be viewed and details tracked for each process—a significant step toward greater transparency and control.
Since sign.online was only available in English until this project, the platform was expanded to meet DR-WALTER's international requirements. Today, the system supports multiple languages and allows individual contracts to be formatted, including the integration of high-resolution logos from contractual partners.
Investment in the future of the insurance industry
Reinhard Bellinghausen emphasizes that DR‑WALTER's investment in sign.online puts it at the forefront of the digital transformation of the German insurance industry: “I am convinced that simplified and transparent contract signing will lead to greater satisfaction and even more trust in our services and products.”
