Construction of a technical secondary school in Kemondo/Tanzania

Construction of a technical secondary school in Kemondo/Tanzania

05.06.2019

In addition to the primary school, also a secondary school is being built. DR-WALTER is supporter as part of its series Project of the Month.

More than 500 children receive a high-quality education in the Bethania Primary School. The graduates now also get the opportunity of secondary education.

A home
The Kemondo Children's Village in Tanzania was founded more than 20 years ago to provide a home for AIDS orphans. The administration of the village is in local hands. Nehemia Christliches Hilfswerk e.V. is the project partner of the local project owner. Today about 120 children live in family-like structures in the children's village.

Focus on education
Soon the need for an own school arose. Over the years, a preschool and primary school were built, which offer a chance for education to more than 500 children from the children's village, the affiliated boarding school and the surrounding area. The school is known for its excellent results and was ranked second in the region in the last final exams.

Graduation with perspective
The current challenge is to create the same high standard also for secondary education. For this reason, the construction of a secondary school began in 2017. In Tanzania there is the possibility of "technically" aligning secondary schools, i.e. by combining them with vocational training. Among other things, the pupils learn the basics in several trades as well as in office communication. These skills can be used directly or help to pursue further training in a targeted manner. The Technical Secondary School is planned with two parallel classes. Eight classrooms are needed for the four grades. Accordingly, on top of the two existing classrooms of the technical secondary school, new classrooms are to be built in line with the annual increase of students over the next years.
